'Marco Polo': First original opera by the Silk Road International League of Theaters staged in Beijing

The original opera Marco Polo, the first created by the Silk Road International League of Theaters, was staged in Beijing last Wednesday. The show features a world-class production team and distinguished artists from all over the globe, telling the story of ancient Silk Road icon Marco Polo.

The Venetian explorer who traveled along the ancient route, made great contributions to the history of cultural exchange between China and the West.

And now the Guangzhou Opera House, one of the league members of Silk Road International League of Theaters, has gathered a world-class team and created an epic opera to commemorate the famous historical icon.

The opera tells the legendary story of Marco Polo, who was fascinated with the orient. He traveled to and eventually left China via the ancient Silk Road.

The opera brings together talented artists from around the world and surprisingly, all the songs performed by the international cast are in Chinese.

The music was composed by Enjott Schneider, director of the German Association of Composers, who has rich experience in composing Chinese opera.

The opera's music is played by the Tianjin Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Chinese Grammy-winning conductor Tang Muhai.

The show made its world premiere in Guangzhou in early May in southern China's Guangdong Province and also be staged in Beijing last week.
