15 Cambodian ancient artifacts to be exhibited in Beijing

PHNOM PENH, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Fifteen Cambodian ancient artifacts will be on display in Beijing, capital of China, before the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, Kong Vireak, director of the National Museum of Cambodia, said on Tuesday.

Held at the National Museum of China in Beijing, the exhibition will bring together ancient objects from various museums in countries that have joined the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), he said.

"It is a big event at the National Museum of China in Beijing," he told Xinhua. "We have selected 15 objects to join that exhibition. Now, our staff is there working with Chinese counterparts to put those objects on display."

The selected items, according to Vireak, include bronze drums, a stone-made Buddha statue, lintels, bronze statues, and ceramics.

"We tried to select objects that reflect the relationship between China and Cambodia through the history," he said.

He added that the exhibition is very important to promote cultural exchanges.

Cambodia had its ancient objects displayed in China in 2014, according to Vireak.
